Coed Llandegla Forest – a Focus for Best Practice and Climate Change
Journalists from Finland visit Llandegla to learn how to manage forests
Journalists from Finland came all the way to Llandegla Forest in North Wales to learn how we manage our forests. Forest owners UPM Tilhill incorporate public amenity and deliver enhanced biodiversity within a commercially sustainably managed plantation at Llandegla, which shows a leading best practice approach.
The journalists visited the harvesting site at Pendinas, the bird hide, the habitat area within the property boundary managed for moorland species, and the BIG "Tilhill Berm". On their return to the Visitor Centre, they were treated by Oneplanet Adventure to a feast of locally sourced food with a Welsh theme. The smoked salmon and sausages coated in honey and sesame seeds attracted special praise from all of the guests. In the afternoon the journalists were given a presentation on how UPM Tilhill’s business streams operate, the plans for the future and the likely expansion of operations at Coed Llandegla Visitor Centre.

Climate change brings visitors from around the world to Llandegla
Llandegla has also been the focus of visitors from Estonia, Russia, Finland, Canada, USA and the UK, who were discussing how a rapidly changing climate could have an impact on forest soils and forest productivity. The members of the UPM Kymmene Environment Group toured the forest and looked in particular at the harvesting site. |
